Silent Partner Making Bow at Randall Today Phenomenal Speedster Has Seven Foes in Six-Furlong Hash Purse RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, May 17. — The anxiously awaited appearance of Gill Cattle Co.s phenomenal speedster, Silent Partner, has been scheduled for tomorrow. The bald-faced Arizona-bred son of Montrose and Covollie, by Coventry, has been named to oppose seven rivals in the six furlongs Hash Purse, which event features the most outstanding program to be arranged this meeting by racing secretary and handicapper, L. H. VanZandt. Silent Partner possesses a record that would be difficult to match by any thoroughbred, having been victorious in 40 of his 44 times postward. This might be a worlds record except for the fact that until competing in three races this spring at Lincoln Downs, he had never before run at a recognized race track. His official record will therefore show a defeat, followed by two triumphs. Each of these three races were at five furlongs, at which distance he established a new track record of :58y5 over the thirteen-sixteenths of a mile Lincoln Downs oval when he was a handy winner at that course on their closing day two weeks ag,o. The five-year-old horse resembles a picture-pony more than a thoroughbred, but no mistake can be made upon witnessing his running style. He is a light golden chestnut with his face perfectly marked with white, coming down from his forehead and widening to completely cover his nostrils and muzzle. His left foreleg is the only one not stockinged with white. Jockey Anthony Licata states that he races kindly and although never having gone beyond five furlongs, Licata is certain that he will be able to rate Silent Partners speed to carry the distance he will be required to negotiate tomorrow. Astride Silent Partner in nearly all of his triumphs which were scored during match events and at quarter-horse meetings in the western states, this capable veteran reinsman believes Silent Partner to be even faster than the renowned quarter horse, Barbara B. She is also owned by the Gill Cattle Co., and was ridden by Licata in her famous match race at Golden Gate Fields when she defeated the thoroughbred Fair Truckle at her favorite quarter mile distance. According to Licata, Silent Partner seldom outbroke his rivals during Iris campaign as a quarter horse, but settled in stride quickly and won the short distance events in Whirlaway fashion. In setting the new track mark at Lincoln Downs, Silent Partner defeated a speedster in his own right, Free Valley. The western horse passed by Free Valley, who opened a three lengths lead. Licata held, a tight rein on showed first out of the gate, but was quickly Silent Partner, however, and coming to the final furlong, easily disposed of Free Valley to be going away at the finish, while still in hand. „
