Illinois Notes WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 17. Jockey Harold Keene has been engaged to handle Ivy Boy in the 0,000 Joliet Stakes here on Saturday for Mrs. L. M. Ivy of Fort Worth, Tex., according, to the riders agent. Royal Born was purchased in a private transaction here this morning by R. R. Devaul from the Valley View Farm. The four-year-old Snap Lock gelding has been turned over to C. F. Cherry to condition. Lawrence C. Bogenschutz, racing secretary and handicapper for the Lincoln Fields Racing Association, left late yesterday for Louisville, Ky., where he will confer with officials conducting the current Churchill Downs meeting. Bogenschutz is expected to return Thursday to this point. Jimmy Smith, son of the veteran trainer, Tom Smith, arrived here today from New York to take over the training of the division of horses Mrs. Ada L. Rice has quar- ■ tered at this trackr Lady Marquest, owned by C. A. McCaw, Jr., arrived from Churchill Downs today in charge of John Johnson. The juvenile daughter of Jacomar — Desert Flower is being pointed for the Miss America Stakes, a two-year-old filly race to be decided here on June 11. John Woodruff took over the conditioning duties of Mrs. Sayde Smiths Free Citizen, River Jack and Best Trick. He replaces as trainer, C. F. Cherry. Mrs. Jean Rands Carpaca and The Fox left today for River Downs, near Cincinnati, Ohio. Trainer C. R. Taylor took the pair to the southern Ohio course. Jockey Jack Chestnut deposited his tack in the jockeys room after checking in from Churchill Downs today. Chestnut is slated to be at the reins on W. M. Peaveys Wisconsin Boy in the Joliet Stakes Saturday. Frank Carra, who makes his home in Chicago Heights, is leaving for Omaha, Nebr., on Sunday, where he will serve as patrol judge at the Ak-Sar-Ben meeting, which opens May 24. Jockey Robert Norman disclosed here this morning he purchased the contract on his riding services held by J.- J. Gregory and will in the future perform in the saddle as a free lance. Louis Kacheres and Louis Severson became the combined owners of Russian Action after purchasing the six-year-old mare from George D. Smith at private terms today. Russian Action was turned over to L. A. Connor to train by the new owners. Marion H. VanBerg disclosed today he is sending Propelled, Quick Cash and Attic Girl to Ak-Sar-Ben with trainer C. A. Tanner, who is taking for his own interest to the Omaha coure, Keen Olo and Air Commander. Count Chat and Fearless Ken are to be sent this week to Omaha, Neb., for racing at Ak-Sar-Ben, according to owner and trainer of the pair, G. F. Meng. Trainer C. P. Winfrey arrived today from Louisville, Ky., with Shillalah, Gus G., Lucky Dog and Poltroon, owned by George McMullen, a Detroit patron. Herbert M. Woolf, owner of Woolford Farm, and George Wahlman, who manages that extensive breeding farm, were on hand yesterday to watch Delegate carry the maroon and white silks of Woolford Farm ■ to victory in the Crete Handicap. Both returned to the Kansas City, Kan., establishment today. The horses owned by Mrs. A. M. Creech, and another division belonging to Mrs. Reid Luginbuel, arrived here today from Churchill Downs in care of trainer Benny Creech. Apprentice Leslie Wickel, under contract to Creech, accompanied the shipment and plans to accept mounts immediately. W. M. Peaveys Jett Jett, Puddle Jumper, Mill Cat, Dusty Babe, Wisconsin Boy and Rendova were given stabling accommodations at this track this morning after coming in from Louisville, Ky., in care of trainer E. C. Dobson. Owner-trainer J. Ferrara brought in to this track today Carmargo Babe, Comic Lady and Props Girl. The trio was sent from Laurel race track in Maryland. Jockey Jess Higley joined the colony of riders collecting for this meeting. He came in from Churchill Downs and rides free lance.
