Docksfader Returning To Races at Suffolk Babin Colorbearer Among Eight Seeking Cohasset Purse Honors SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 17. — Midweek patrons of Suffolk Downs will be treated to another nine-race program made possible when an extra event styled for cheap platers over the popular grass course received great response from local horsemen. Heading tomorrows card is the ,500 Cohassett Purse, an overnight allowance dash at six furlongs for older horses. Eight well-regarded sprinters have been named for the Cohasset, which will be run as the sixth race. In addition to bringing together New England favorite sprinters, the Cohasset has been selected by George T. Babin to return his star, Dockstader, to active competition. The seven-year-old son of Mr. Bones — Phalarita was partial to the East Boston racing strip last season and gained his only stakes victory in the Governors Handicap, defeating Flag Drill and Black Knave. Dockstader was temporarily shelved last winter in New Orleans after winding up his 1948 campaign with his fourth triumph of the year. In that race, the Babin racer received a serious injury to his foot, making it necessary to take him out of training. Since arriving here this spring Dockstader has been training steadily and appears ready for the issue. Dockstader will have to be at midseason form if he starts the years campaign off on the right foot. Slated to compete against him in tomorrows feature are such seasoned sprinters as Joseph Gavegnanos Directoire, F. M. Poncelets Charing Rock, Mt. Desert Stables Tim B., Circle K Farms Misleader, O. C. Roys Andantino and Guy Bedwells Daily Dip. The other candidate for the Cohasset, Mrs. C. A. Copes Friedy, is also making his seasonal debut. Directoire finished second last Friday behind Lookout Studs Lookout Son and the improvement expected off that performance may be good enough to get the job done in tomorrows test. Last year the Burgoo King colt was consistently close in most of his races, although winning* only one start in eight tries. The opposition was always the best in this sector. Charing Rock has started twice this spring, finishing third in each instance. The son of Charing Cross was also a member of the elite group that won either a stake or featured handicap in 1948, having annexed the General Stark Handicap at Rockingham Park last fall. Misleader, a Wheatley Stable cast-off, won the Roger Williams Handicap at Nar-ragansett Park last year and, although he appears better suited at middle distances, the Snark stallion is capable of negotiating the sprint routes in good fashion. If Mis-leaders debut last week was all that was needed to complete his spring fitness program, this fellow may be right there when the numbers are posted in the Cohasset. Andantino and Daily Dip would have to show decide improvement to enter the picture tomorrow., As for Friedys chances, it would appear the four-year-old was over- matched. Regarded as a top-flight performer back in 1947 while running as a juvenile, Friedy failed repeatedly last year. The Bull Lea — Burgoo Mary scolt could not gain a decision in 29 races.
