Modern Waterford Park Track Inaugurates Meet Nine Go in Main Event on Card At New West Virginia Course WATERFORD PARK, Chester, W. Va., May 18.— Major scale horse racing comes to the Tri-State area tomorrow with the opening of nearby modern Waterford Park, swank mile course erected at a cost of more than ,000,000 and designed for comfort and convenience. It is the realization of a plan outlined in 1936 by A. J. Boyle, president of the -operating association. During the 40-day inaugural meeting, the thoroughbreds will compete for more than half a million dollars. Value of events range from ,200 to ,000. Eight races daily will be presented, with post time for the first number at 2:15 p. m. Heading the introductory card and listed sixth on the program is the appropriately titled Waterford Park Handicap. It is fashioned for ;three-year-olds and older, carries a ,500 prize and attracted a field of nine from among 15 original nominees. Highweighted at 124 pounds is Solicitor, owned by Sylvester Rich, Pittsburgh busi-nessman. He was a recent winner over all known speedsters at Marylands PimlicO track. Weights in the field, then scale down to 99 pounds, to be lugged by With Ease, property of Cary C. Boshamer, of Clover, South Carolina. For those with a leaning towards an entry, there is such in the G. Y. Booker pair of Lawless Miss, imposted at 116 pounds, and Mad Hare, assigned 113 by the handicapper. Rounding out the field are Mrs. M. Rogans Duke Aumar, also a winner a few days ago and slated to tote 120 pounds; Chiloe II., 114, and a representative of James Jenkins Rockridge Farm; E. B. Townsends Tamale, 111; Wilmer C. Ensors JLove Lock, 111, and A. C. Pauls Sir Ridgewell, in with 104 pounds. Considering that Solicitor has already triumphed twice against prominent allowance type performers, he is the solid contestant. In liis last outing, he came from off the pace to drive to a head verdict over Binky B. Prior to that, he had bested such as Abbottstown, Milldale, Oriole and others. Duke Aumar, Love Lock, Lawless Miss and Tamale seem to be the ones Solicitor will have to put away to register for the third time this year. With the plant preened, pruned and ready for fans, it is expected that 20,000 or more will journey out to this newest turf center. Admission gates. to the grandstand and clubhouse will be opened at 11:00 a. m. As each and every fan proceeds through the turnstiles, free programs will be handed out. Everything is in readiness — and, within a few hours, the horses will be off and running at this site which is within 42 miles of Pittsburgh and within easy driving distance of many Ohio cities, as well as West Virginia population areas. A total of 10,000,000 people .reside within a radius of 100 miles.
