Scottish Pence Being Prepped For Return to Pacing Wars Looking fit and trim after a long rest, Scottish Pence, the fastest harness horse of 1950, is getting ready to return to the free-for-all pacing wars. Owned by the Castleton Farm of Lexington, Ky., Scottish Pence won 3,387 last year, more than any other pacer ever banked in a single season. In addition, he raced twice in 1:58% and went in 1:57% in a time trial. In 32 1950 starts, the son of Scotland, a comparative unknown when the season opened, won 28, was second twice and third once. Only on one occasion, when White Mountain Boy established a worlds record early in the campaign, was he back of the money. Scottish Pence wound up second to Proximity in Harness Horse of The Year balloting and trainer Wayne Curly Smart will be aiming for that honor among others when he sets his 6-year-old stallion in motion during the Toledo, Ohio meeting this month.
