Jerry A. Hanover Risks Win Streak at Aurora Faces Pay Up and Oh Johnny in Two-Section Free-For-AII Test AURORA DOWNS, Aurora, 111. — Jerry A. Hanover, H. W. Burrights steady Spud Hanover trotter, will risk his two-race win skein in a ,500 free-for-all trot at Aurora Downs Saturday night. The 7-year-old bay gelding made his first start on May 2, and finished fifth behind Oh Johnny, Malcolm, Gene Long and Fay Spencer. However, he made amends for this performance by knocking off both heats of the Peoria Stake, a 16-class conditioned early closer on May 11. Saturday, Jerry A. Hanover has his work cut out, having to face such veteran campaigners as Pay Up, Gene Long, Buddy Patchen, Oh Johnny, Joe Donlin, Fay Spencer and Jeffrey Hanover. Of this field, which will go two trips, the sixth and ninth races, Oh Johnny has the best win time of this meeting. The 9-year-old David Mack bay gelding, owned by Leo Metz, Pontiac, Michigan, toured the Downs half-mile oval in 209.2 on May 2. His other victory this meeting was-over the 6V2 furlongs route in 143.4. Jerry A. Hanovers win times are 211.2 and 211.3. However, he is capable of breaking 210 everytime he turns around. Pay Ups pair of triumphs at this meeting were negotiated in 212.3 and 212 flat. Joe Donlin, with a mile track mark of 203, will be making his 1951 debut in the free-for-all event. The 5-year-old Volo-mite brown horse, winner of 11 races last year for an earning power of ,667, has been working well, and railbirds report that Harry Livingston has him ready for the races. Jerry A. Hanover drew the pole for the first trip, while Fay Spencer gained the coveted starting position for the other trip. Jeffrey Hanover, Monroe Halls very dangerous trotter, drew 8-5 and with Walter "Pee Wee" Welch in the sulky, can easily be the horse to beat. Trainer-driver Bob Taylor, disappointed with Oh Johnnys performance in the Peoria Trot, worked his horse Wednesday, and was more than pleased with the results. Oh Johnny can be rough if he takes a notion to trot. Outsiders in the free-for-all are Gene Long, Buddy Patchen and Fay Spencer. This trio can trot and may prove troublesome to the "bearcats."
