Provocative Makes Good In First Start of Year Proves Easily Best in Lincoln Dash; Market Tip Runs Second WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., May 18. — Mrs.~ Emil Denemarks Provocative, making his first start jf the year, easily conquered a small field in the Mucho Gusto Purse at Washington Park today. The good looking son of Roman, whose earnings in each of the past two seasons has been in the neighborhood of 0,000, was ridden by Job Dean Jessop and shaking -off Connies Boy after going half the seven-furlong distance, drew out while saving ground in the stretch. Market Tip came steadily through the stretch to take second place from the tiring Connies Boy, Provocative was a heavily backed favorite and paid ".60, the shortest price of the meeting. He ran the distance in 1:23%. The weather was pleasantly warm and a crowd of 7,492 turned out to view the eight-race bill. William Hal Bishop added to his steadily mounting earnings when horses from his stable, accounted for two of the. first five races. Technicolor won the opener from the favored Piognancy, while Show Place, who was the public choice, was home first in the fifth event. Jockey Harold Keene was the winning rider in both instances. Technicolor was in the Daily Double with Her Gift, winner of the second, and the combination paid 11.20. Her Gift, piloted by Ave-lino Gomez, came from behind to beat the tiring favorite, Equisun. Veteran Johnny Adams put up. one of his better rides to land the favored Dickie Sue in front in the third race. The filly was caught in close quarters on the inside in. the early running, but Adams sent her through between horses in the stretch to be* lip in time. She changed hands after the event, being claimed by Mrs. Gilbert Emick. Buds Pride, owned by Jimmy Hejna, edged out four others in a torrid finish in the fourth. Jockey Robert Baird was in the saddle.
