► : ; Hazel Park Track Now Open To Horsemen for Training . DETROIT, Mich., May 18.— More than 100 thoroughbreds are quartered at Hazel Park race track and more stables are moving in every day following the opening of the racing plant for training purposes last weekend, the racing begins at the Detroit track Friday and then will follow Hazel Park meeting on August 3 through October 6. Horsemen pronounced the racing strip in excellent condition and daily~workouts are in progress. Schooling will start next week. This is the second consecutive year that Hazel Park has opened its gates to owners and trainers a month or more ahead of schedule in cooperation with Michigan owners and outstate stables. Among the owners who bedded down their charges at Hazel Park this week were Norman "Butzy" Hernandez, with 14; Marion Barton brought in 15; A. Barrera has 10 head in training; Ray Coons registered a stable of 14, and Delores-Eckman 5. Richard A. Connell, president of Hazel Park Racing Association, announced that racing secretary Horace Wade will arrive in Detroit next week at which time a final screening of hundreds of applications for stalls at Hazel Park will be made.
