Pittsburgh Homers Humble Cubs, 10-1 Kiner.and Metkovich Pace Bucs Attack With Circuit Blows to End Losing Streak By the United Press Homers by Ralph Kiner and George Metkovich and a five-hit performance by Murry Dickson today gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 10 to 1 victory over the Cubs before 8,143 fans. The triumph, featuring a five-run sixth inning which knocked out Frank Hiller, snapped a six-game Pittsburgh losing streak and gave Dickson his sixth win of the season. Kiners homer was his ninth this year, while Metkovichs blast was his second. The only Cubs run was Andy Pafkos ninth homer of the season in the second inning. Metkovich did the most damage to Hiller, Bob Kelly and Turk Lown when he drove in five runs with his homer, a double and two singles. Scatters Hits Dickson never allowed more than one Cub hit in an inning and mastered them all the way. The five-run sixth inning which sent Hiller away started with a double by Kiner. Then there was a walk to Wally Westlake, a triple by Clyde McCullough, singles by Dickson and Pete Castiglione. Metkovich greeted Kelly with a double and that clinched the game for the Pirates. The score by innings: R H E Pirates 010 115 020—10 14 0 Cubs 010 000 000— 1 5 1 Dickson 6-3 and McCullough; Hiller, Kelly 6, Lown 9 and Walker, Owen 6. Losing pitcher, Hiller 4-3.
