Scottish Pence Candidate For Sportsmans Pace Curly Smart, Castleton Driver, To Have Star Here August 10 The nationals leading owners of harness horses received bad news recently with the announcement that Wayne "Curly" Smart had signed to train and drive exclusively for the powerful Castleton Farm of Lexington, Ky. One of the most sought-after reinsmen in the business Curly is bound to keep Castelton near the top as one of the successful standard-bred establishments. He is scheduled to make at least one appearance before Chicago harness fans, when he brings the great pacer Scottish Pence to Sportsmans Park during the Chicago Downs meeting which is scheduled to open a 54-night .session on Monday, June 11. Scottish Pence is among the 17 nominated for the 6,000 Sportsmans Pace, the one and one-half mile feature on the Chicago Downs stake program which will be the featured attraction on Friday night, August 10. Smart has a clause in his new contract which will allow him to continue to handle a pair of horses for his first patron and fellow-townsman, Joe Neville, Jjhe Little Brown Jug bigwig, of Delaware, Ohio. In the Sportsmans Pace such top-notch pacers as Fair Acres Farms Dudley Hanover, one of the favorites to win "the Sportsmans Park feature will go against the Castleton Farm invader. Dudley Hanovers home base is DuQuoin, HI., and is the winner of the 6,000 Little Brown Jug Classic last year.
