Twelve Speedsters Seek Rosebeh Piet and Tea-Maker Go in Belmont Race Each to Carry 126 Pounds In Straight Course Event Oyer Six-Furlong Distance BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y.f June 5.— The twelfth running of the 0,-000 Roseben Handicap, a six-furlong dash on the straight course named for Davey Johnsons great sprinter, who, among other feats, won the Toboggan Handicap in 1905, the year Belmont Park opened, and the following season established the seven-furlong record still stands, heads tomorrows Belmont program. There are no Rosebens or reasonable facsimiles thereof in tomorrows field of 12, but the dash has attracted some nimble sprinters, headed* by Peter A. Markeys Piet and F. Ambrose Clarks Tea-Maker with 126 pounds. Piet won the Toboggan last year on the straight course and was a bang-up second to Casemate in the Metropolitan Mile this season. He will be ridden by Nichols Combest tomorrow. Tea-Maker has also raced well on the straight course, finishing a close second to Belair Studs surprising Hyphasis in this years Toboggan. Hyphasis will be back tomorrow with 117 pounds, seven more than he carried on opening day, a shift of four pounds against him in relation to Tea-Maker. Jim Fitzsimmons charge has also drawn the unfavorable inside post position; Tea-Maker followed his good race in the Toboggan with another in the Wilmington Handicap at Delaware in which he was a rather unlucky second to Call Over. Eddie Arcaro will be back on Tea-Maker, while Bob Bernhardt will be in his regular place on the back of Hyphasis. Miche Carries 116 The others in the Roseben, in order of the weights, are Mrs. John Payson Adams Miche, 116; Llangollen Farms Singing Step, 114; C. V. Whitneys Mount Marcy, 113; Woolford Farms Delegate, 111; Brook-meade Stables War King, 109; Elm Crest Farms Navy Chief, 107; John C. Hauers Aris Mona, 105; Maine Chance Farms Admirals Pride, 104, and Hudson Valley Stables Darnaway, 102. Miche returned to action here last week after being on the sidelines since early December and was a fast-finishing third in a swiftly run sprint on the main course won by Bryan G. Conn McCreary will be in the saddle. Singing Step beat Aris Mona in a sprint here last out and showed speed for five of the six furlongs of the Toboggan. Eric Guerin will ride the roan stallion. Mount Marcy and Delegate appear to have gone back considerably and the former has drawn the No. 2 post in the gate. Mount Marcy won a sprint at Keeneland, beating Circus Clown and others, then finished far back in a handicap at a mile and a six- , teenth and in the Metropolitan Mile. Delegate turned in a good race in the Toboggan, in-which he hung at the end, then was soundly beaten in the Metropolitan. Of the others, Navy Chief has - been showing speed and tiring; War King seems slightly outclassed; Aris Mona usually falters badly, Admirals Pride has never duplicated one sensational Hialeah race and Darnaway had assistant starter trouble in * his last, but is a speedy veteran who may be dangerous under his feathery impost of a competent lightweight rider can be found for him. No boy has yet been named for Darnaway and the logical choice, Nick Wall, is serving out a suspension. Tomorrows supporting features are the Jolly Roger Steeplechase at about two miles and the Cassis Purse for juveniles. Braeburn Farms unbeaten Star-Enfin, who was not made eligible to yesterdays National Stallion, will be tested by six rivals including the colt winners, Brer Fox, Blue Man and Charlie McAdam, in the Cassis, which is at five furlongs on the straight course.
