Delaware Cards Second In Montchanin Series Lordri, Apachico, Broken Lens And Free Press Compete Again DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 5. — The Montchanin Handicap, a series of events designed for horses who have raced for a claiming price of ,500 or less since October 2, has its second running tomorrow afternoon, the distances having been advanced to a mile and a furlong and the purse increased to ,000. Heading the field are Mrs. Ellsworth H. Augustus Loran, Victory Stables Apachico, Dion K. Kerr, Jr.s Broken Lens and Sylvester Richs Free Press, who earned the money positions in the order named in last weeks running. Rounding out the Montchanin field are Frank A. Piarullis coupling of Mirthmaker and Alairne, J. H. Hammonds Butler, Mrs. W. Strawbridges June Prince, H. W. Finchers Quemadito, Phil Leydeckers Fifty Five and Keystone Stables Tus One. In last Wednesdays mile and a sixteenth edition, Loran, a four-year-old Count Fleet filly, clearly demonstrated her superiority. She does, however, pick up two pounds, while Apachico drops one and Broken Lens and Free Press drop two pounds each. The additional sixteenth of #,,mile should not hurt Loran too much, but Apachico is ex- pected to appreciate the additional distance. Top races on the mid-week presentation is the mile and a sixteenth Clayton Purse, which preceeds the Montchanin. In this test are several potential stakes competitors, including Circle M Farms Endurable and William G. Helis Drifting Maid. The first-named Chance Shot colt raced in the Kiamensi last Saturday and was beaten a bit more than four lengths when third behind Blue Hills and Pensava. Drifting Maid* has not raced since the Colonial Handicap, where she was beaten only three lengths by the victorious Risk A Whirl. Prior to that she won two purses over allowance company. Opposing the above pair are Sylvester W. Labrot, Jr.s, Taran, Mrs. S. M. Pis-torios Golden Bull, Allan J. Wilsons Arthur Pilate, William Ziegler, Jr.s, Bit o Fate, Winlochan Stables Adopt and J. Graljam Browns Ray Count Miss. Taran, like Endurable, raced in last Saturdays Kiamensi, being beaten 10 lengths. That was an extremely well-run race, however, the winning Blue Hills having *been timed in 1:43% for the mile and a sixteenth after all of the early fractions had been extremely fast. Of the others, only Adopt has been victorious this season, coming up with a surprisingly good race last week to beat a field of fleet sprinters over six furlongs. He was. .timed ,in 1:12 flat, while wearing down Mr. Buster and KtamiM s e c
