Cleveland Farms Davidson To Cedar Rapids for Work CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 5 UP.— Billy Joe" Davidson, the 18-year-old pitcher whom the Cleveland Indians paid an estimated 50,000 bonus for ..signing last week, was farmed out today to Cedar Rapids of the Class B Three-I League. Although manager Al Lopez of the Indians was impressed by Davidsons speed and pitching form during his week-long trial with the club, the youthful left-hander was sent to the minors to pitch himself into shape. Davidson, who graduated from Oak Ridge N. C. Military Academy last week, pitched in only two games this season. His eligibility at the academy ended last year. » "We .have decided that Davidson will profit more from . regular work in the minors than hie would staying here," explained general manager Hank Greenberg*. He added that Davidson will begin pitching regularly at Cedar Rapids as soon as he joins the club. Shortstop Ronnie Montgomery, Davidsons classmate at Oak Ridge, also was farmed out to Cedar Rapids. Montgomery was signed on a trial basis and was offered a regular contract after impressing the Indians management.
