Alphara, United Nation Among Seven Seeking Sprint Offering at Detroit Oval Former Shoulders 119 As Opponents Tote 110; Bolaris Makes 1951 Bow DETROIT, Mich., June 5.— The Industrial City Purse, a six furlongs event for three-year-olds and older, which attracted the entries of seven Heet sprinters, is to headline an unusually good program tomorrow at this spacious Michigan plant. Racing secretary Charles McLennan and the members of his staff have also arranged some excellent supporting races and good sport appears in store for this Motor City courses patrons. Under the allowance conditions of the Industrial City, James Paddocks Louisville-owned Alphara is to take up the top weight burden of 119 pounds and the hardhitting gelded son of Pharamond n. and Alpoise may go to the post choice over his six rivals. Others named for the feature are R. L. Lancasters Raven Reward, 109, and Mrs. George C. Whites Ferro Fox, 109, which pair is to race coupled; Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers Dogs Up, 109; Steven Chris homebred Canadian invader, Bolaris, 106; Henry Forrests United Nation, 110, and John Harts Convicted, 111 pounds. Eldon Coffman is to have the mount on Alphara, Eddie Danhauer drew the saddle assignment for Raven Reward, and young George Walker, one of the top apprentice reinsmen here this year, is scheduled to handle the quick Ferro Fox. Darrell Madden, contract rider for the Shaffer establishment, is named on Dogs Up, and youthful Gerald Champagne will be astride United Nation. Connections for Convicted and Bolaris, both in with the apprentice allowance, hadnt named jockeys for their charges at a late hour today. ! Alphara, beaten two lengths by Bully Boy in the Anniversary Handicap on inaugural day, led home such shifty racers on that occasion as Bee Lee Tee, Ky. Colonel, Tiger Matt, Fancy Flyer, and others, turning in a spendid performance. Several days later, the Paddock- gelding % bowed to Is There in a six furlongs offering but behind him at the wire were three of his Industrial City Purse opponents, Ferro Fox, Dogs Up, and Raven Reward. Previous to his transfer to the local" oval, Alphara visited the winners rings at New Orleans, Keeneland, and Churchill Downs. United Nation, one of the mainstays of the Forrest stable, is a four-year-old daughter of Tour Freedoms and Pompish and she was foaled at Del E. Holemans Pilot Knob Stud in Tennessee. Making her first start here, she came from of f the pace in a three-quarter mile dash to achieve a well deserved verdict at the direct expense of Money Lender and she was a good win ner in New Orleans during the month of February over speedy company. Dogs Up failed to show the form that earned her a dead-heat here last season with Alphara when she was beaten off in her last start by Is There, Alphara, Ferro Fox, and Money Lender. Although the Shaffer miss, a homebred four-year-old daughter of Shut Out and Doggie Pam, had some excuse in that race she, nevertheless, lacked the speed that stamped her as one of the better sophomores campaigned in the Motor City and Kentucky during 1950. Roughed during the running, Dogs Up was no better than fifth at the final marker although Raven Reward, Illustrate, and Texas Rain-were in her wake. Bolaris always has enjoyed a good following in the Motor City for she won five of her 15 engagements last year as a sophomore, several of her better performances taking place in Michigan. Favorably weighted for the Industrial City she may upset some of the" top-seeded ones in the dash if she races to her top form. The Chris filly recently worked a half-mile in :49, quite handily from the gate over the localstrip * j * . « !• i t j t
