Top Hunt Mounts Expected To Go in Oak Brook Event Nomination of some of the nations best hunt mounts is expected for the fifth annual Oak Brook steeplechase to be held June 23 at Oak Brook, Northwest of suburban Hinsdale. Horses from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan Pennsylvania, Tennessee and New York are expected to take part in the six-race program, which will feature four contests over obstacles. The event, the initial mid-West appearance this summer of this ancient and thrilling sport, is sanctioned by the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association, and is open to the public. The four obstacle races will be over hunting fences, hurdles and timber. The three-mile race over timber will be a difficult test for both mount and rider, as the horse must hurdle a solidly placed timber barrier cleanly or suffer the consequences. There are two hurdle races, both at distances of two miles. These differ from the timber race in that the barriers can be knocked over, but the height of the barrier is varied. The race committee includes Michael W. Butler, president; Alexander L. Cochrance, vice-president; John L. Irving, treasurer; Emerson T. Chandler, secretary; Julius W. Butler, and Theodore A. "Ted" Mohlman,. MFH» racing secretary.
