Ding Ding and Hellespont Prepare for Betsy Ross Among Nine Fillies Competing in Todays Garden State Feature By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 14. — A field of nine sophomore fillies will participate in the Downington Purse here tomorrow, a six furlongs event given nominal billing as the feature race. None of these young members of the distaff side seem particularly gifted, but E. H. Mess-mers Ding Ding and Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Hellespont, the two who will vie for favoritism, will be testing out to see if they are up to fulfilling their engagement on Saturday in the 0,000 added Besty Ross Stakes. Ding Ding, a daughter of Bolingbroke and Bills Sister, did not do too badly in her race here last week, which was her first essay of the season. She had a good turn of early speed and finished second to Mrs. G. D. Wideners Adamantine, who is given respect as a Betsy Ross candidate. Ding Ding was several lengths in front of the others in that field, including Darby Dan Farms Whirlaron, who will oppose her tomorrow. Ding Ding is slated to carry 110 pounds and jockey George Hettinger.- Hellespont, a homebred daughter of Heliopolis, has been only lightly campaigned and managed a victory over handy company at Laurel in mid-AprH. Her last race in Maryland was at one mile when she tired -and finished fourth behind Bessies Beau, DInewisely and Blue Grouse. Herassignment is 116 pounds with "Steady Sammy" Boulmetis named as her rider. J. W. Bowleys Fighting Lark launched her campaign this season with a triumph over a sloppy track at Jamaica, and returned in her only other outing to finish a close-up second. However, both efforts were against cheap claimers. Ira Drymons Desert, George F. Stricklands Devilkin and J. W. Doyles Flying Pat each have shown form that would bring them into prominence tomorrow, but they have done little worth-while recently. Ham Mar Stables Moorea showed speed before bolting in her only essay here, while Nanolen Farms j Fiddles is making her 1952 debut. ;
