Bleu Feature Lasts for Nose Tally Repels Podoloffs Bid in Game Style Two Stage Thrilling Duel Down Garden State Home Lane as 18,600 Look On By FRED GALIANI Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 14. — It was a close call for the favored Savoy Stables Bleu Feature in the Lionville Purse here this afternoon, but, under Sammy Boulmetis hard drive, the choice withstood Mrs. C. A. Copes Podoloffs desperate drive to win by a nose. Two lengths in back of the tightly locked pair came C. W. Hinkles Curtain Time. Bleu Feature covered the six furlongs of the Lionville Purse, one of the best offering on the card, in 1:H% over the fast track and paid .40 to his supporters. A crowd of 18,600 turned out for todays card and, for the most part, they had a bright, sunny afternoon, although right after the first race a flash thunderstorm came up and drove the patrons to the shelter of the stands. In fact, the storm came in three separate gusts and the fans had a good workout surging back and forth for cover. Bleu Feature was favored on a record of one victory and three seconds in seven starts this year. Front-running is his forte, although it is infrequent that he holds it to the end. Today he was as game as could be and never showed the slightest signs of giving up the battle. Three-Horse Race From Start The race was a three-horse affair from start to finish. Podoloff got a little the best of the start and showed in front for a flash but Boulmetis had Bleu Feature in the lead after a short distance, while Curtain Time was safely set in third place. The positions of the first three" remained that way all the way around the track, although Podoloff, after going a trifle wide on the turn, was sent down for a hard drive in the stretch. With Hettinger working his hardest on Podoloff, Boulmetis steadily hand rode Bleu Feature to just above the final sixteenth where the favorite felt the taste of the whip. It was nip and tuck in the last couple of steps *and as close as possible on the wire. Curtain Time kept his third spot all the way around and was never able to cut down the margin of the first jtwo. Of the others, only Apachico showed anything. Trailing throughout the early part he hugged the rail coming into the stretch, loomed menacingly for a moment but then faded out of the picture, although he did save fourth money for his owner, the Victory Stable. • y
