GAY ROMANCER established a clear early lead, responded to strong urging through the stretch and held RIDGE RUNNER safe. The latter moved menacingly to the stretch and lacked sufficient late rally. HELEN MAISEL, unhurried early, made up ground in the late stages. ROLLING GLEN was best of the others. NEW PRINCESS failed to threaten. CRALETTE faltered badly. MISS CROSS broke out of hand and hail little chance. YAZETTE displayed brief speed. GRAY SCAMP raced extremely wide leaving the backstretch. DONNADOON wrested command nearing the stretch and withstood the late bid of BLENLIN. The latter was far back early, moved between horses to make up considerable ground, was unable to overtake the leader and came back a bit lame. TO STAY loomed a threat nearing the stretch, but had nothing left for the drive. ZUZIE B. showed an even effort RED POPPY raced wide throughout. MAMALOI weakened after setting the pace for more than six furlongs. A VON A was outrun. WILY was used up early and guit. DORADA showed nothing. ROSE-POLL was sent to the front at once, was headed briefly by INCHCOBAR, but turned back the challenge and drew clear under mild urging ELMOS CHOICE became a threat after a half mile, but was not good enough. INCHCOBAR weakened badly through the stretch. BLACK CANASTAS late rally enabled him to catch tired horses. SLAMARANTH weakened. IMPERIAL ROCK could not keep up. KING MIDAS turned in a miserable effort, as did PRINCE CONSORT. TIMBER TOPPER flattened out early. PETERSEN, on the outside while holding a narrow advantage over SUGGESTED, drew clear leaving the backstretch, drifted put during the stretch run and just lasted over FLAG REQUEST. The latter, unhurried early, rallied well when roused, altered her course when the leader went out, then just failed to get up. She was disqualified for having crowded and bumped SUGGESTED late in the stretch run and was placed third. SUGGESTED assumed command soon after stumbling a bit at the break, saved ground while dueling for the- lead, could not stay with G. R. PETERSEN after five furlongs, then was crowded along the inside in the late stages. Nashs claim of foul against FLAG REQUEST was allowed. BESSIES BEAU showed nothing. ANDRE could not keep up.
