_ — A Third Win in Row For Royal Marvel Dispels Any Doubt of Route Ability at Suffolk Track by Overtaking Odds-On Oreo By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent - SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 14. — Eddie Siravos good looking colt, Royal Marvel, dispelled any doubt as to his ability to go a distance of ground today, as he drove to a three-quarter-length victory over J. L. Friedmans Oreo; odds-on choice in the featured Beacon Purse at Suffolk Downs. Another half-length back, Jay-Bob Stables Im Sandy charged stoutly to take third position in the mile and 70-yard test. Fancy Talk and Nola Hash were the only other starters in the mid-week feature, but neither were in the hunt after a half mile. Light clouds prevailed through most of the afternoons program, but cleared in time for the Beacon. The 11,025 patrons basked in*the bright sun and witnessed thrilling stretch .duels in the fifth, sixth and seventh races. The majority of the fans sent Oreo away at 4 to 5 odds making it. possible for the supporters of Royal Marvel to collect .00 for the usual two wagered. The time for the middle distance* was 1:42% over the fast racing strip. Stock for Yankee Soars For the third time in as many starts, the Siravo colt turned back his opposition today and each time his stock soars as a serious factor in the rich Yankee Handicap to be run here next month. Prior to todays race, the son of Royal Nap— Mastola had been sprinting locally and only once at the recent Lincoln Downs meeting was he , sent a mile. Oreo was sent to the front by apprentice Tony DeSpirito and opened three lengths on the bunched field rounding the clubhouse turn. At that point the youngster took a good hold on the favorite and coasted into the backstretch well clear. The others were satisfied to allow Oreo to cut out the pace and no one made a move until reaching the bend near the three-furlong pole. Roberto Gonzalez, the Cuban reinsman astride Royal Marvel, let out a notch leaving the backstretch and the smooth running bay colt quickly took dead aim on the pacemaker. The two were on even terms at the furlong pole, but as stubborn as Oreo wanted to be, he could not match strides with the ultimate winner. Im Sandy distinguished herself as a capable route runner by closing a big gap and was catching Oreo at the end. The daughter of The Sultan duplicated a recent sprint effort in which she was literally flying at the end of a sprint won by Royal Marvel here last week.
