JOCKEY DOUGLAS DODSON— Carried ; off riding honors on yesterdays Lincoln Fields program, piloting four winners. J Red Red Charger Charger Registers Registers in in Sun Sun Beau; Beau; Dark Dark Peter Peter Cleverly Cleverly Wins Wins Roseben Roseben Our Beauty Second To Florsheim Colt Son of Haltal Is Eligible For Peabody and Fleming; Dodson Rides Four Winners By J. J. MURPHY HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 21. — A field of seven fairly capable three-year-olds, four of which are nominated for the Peabody Memorial Handicap, tried the six-furlong distance in the featured Sun Beau allowance race here this afternoon. The dash came seventh on the nine-race bill, and Bella Figura, whose best race as a two-year-old last year was a third to A Gleam and Princess Lygia in the Princess Pat Stakes, was the choice. Bella Figura could do no better than be third to Red Charger and Our Beauty, and they trimmed the even money choice by 10 lengths or more. Red Charger, although finishing in the middle of the track, had enough left to hold Our Beauty, who was going gamely next the rail at the end. Red Charge::, who is owned by Irving Florsheim, sponsor of the Red Top Stable and trained by taciturn Dave Hum, was earning his first purse in 18 essays, Albeit he has run some good races. He has the reputation of having trimmed the Kentucky Derby winner, Hill Gail, in the Prairie State Stakes last spring, and finished second to A. G. Vanderbilts Whither in the Los Feliz Stakes at Santa Anita last winter. Jockey Doug Dodson took over where Johnny Adams left off, when he rode four winners here today. After having steered Red Charger to success in the featured seventh, he won the eighth with Dry Run. His other winners were Boomer in the fifth, and Thaxter in the third. Bella Figura AH Out at Wire Red Charger, away well, moved to the front of Fancy Step around the far turn and opened up on the stretch bend. Ha then bore out and with Our Beauty saving ground, she became the main contender. Red Charger seems to be a better runnel than Our Beauty, however, and beat him to the wire following a brief tussle. Bella Figura failed to garner any laurels. She was close enough early and seemed all played out coming to the wire. Her onlj previous start this year was at Churchill Downs on May Day. Red Charger is not only eligible for th Peabody, but also for Saturdays Edward J. Fleming Memorial Handicap in which he is not likely to start. The colt, a son of Haltal, seems to have fair qualities as t distance runner and may do well when stretched out. Our Beauty/ is also a Peabody candidate, as are Eternal Moon, winner of last years Cowdin Stakes, and Stuy-vesant. The distance of the Sun Beau wai Continued on Page Thirty-One Red Charger Driven Out To Register in Sun Beau Florsheim Colt Shows Readiness For Lincolns Sophomore Stakes Continued from Page One six furlongs and Jhe winners time for the distance was 1:11%. The attendance was 12,762, with a pleasant day as a boon to patrons. Princess Ann, a two-year-old filly who has been raised in classification since winning a ,000 purse at Keeneland, ran the fastest six furlongs of thesession when she sprinted three-quarters in 1:11% to click in the sixth affair, which was designated the Lady Broadcast. Apprentice John Heckmann was hustling Princess Ann along in an endeavor to rack up his second win of the af ternoon, and he made no mistakes the winner being five lengths to the good at the end. Hopeido, who ran as an entry with Not Rushin, was second, and Hedgebill, with Adams up, finished third. The route was six furlongs. Melvin Duhon, who will be en route to Fairmount Park on the morrow,, remained over to ride the five-year-old, Just Eight, for J. O. Logsdon in the opening race, and he turned in a capable chore. The veteran had Just Eight off forwardly and saved ground all the way to win by two lengths from William Hal Bishops Bill Twig, with Roundeleer taking third place. The winner paid 4.60. Moola, the favorite, raced wide and was unable to keep up. Jockey John Adams, who did not ride in the first race, registered his thirteenth success in his last 15 mounts when he had the three-year-old gelding Mattafor up to win the second. The Daily Double of Just Eight and Mattafor paid 4,40. Adams rode his charge, who was a well-played second choice, as if the outcome, of the event was a foregone conclusion. He displayed confidence in taking Mattafor back in the early stages and sent him through an opening in the last eighth to best Anxious. Hobad, who made the pace, was third, but Sweet Seeley, the favorite, finished eighth. The public displayed a surprising amount of confidence in Thaxter, a Pensive colt owned by Mrs. O. S. Deming in the third event and he went to the post an odds-on choice. He ran fairly fast, his time being 1:00%, and won by a couple of lengths, from Fast Buck, but still did not look like any world eater. It was Thaxters first start, while Fast Buck was visiting the starter for the first time. Doug Dodson was the winning rider in the five-furlong dash, which was known as the Supremus. Jockey Adams was unable to carry a sore horse over the line in the fourth and therefore the best he could do was to be third with his charge, Best Doings, from the Landy barn. Adams got the six-year-old to the front in the stretch, but Best Doings was unable to hold his advantage and was beaten by both Happy East and Boo Boo Shoo. Trainer J. P. "Tiny" Keezek saddled his second winner of the day when the three-year-old Boomer took the fifth race. With jockey Doug Dodson doing a neat job of rating Boomer, who was fairly well backed, the latter made a good move in the stretch to draw away from Mr. Dud after a minor battle. The winners chief opposition near the end came from Dance Nsing on whom Jockey Brooks appeared to get a "little late."
