Yankees Subdue White Sox, 5 to 1 Billy Pierce Fails To Halt Champs Reynolds Pitches Steady Five-Hit Game and Scores Winning Run After Triple By the United Press The New York Yankees punched five hits for four runs in the seventh inning yesterday to give righthander Allie Reynolds a 5 to 1 decision over the Chicago White Sox before 7,481 fans. It was Reynolds .fourth win against three defeats as; the Yankees preserved an undefeated record against Chicago this year with four consecutive victories. It was New Yorks third straight win, equalling . their longest victory string of the season. Reynolds, whose mates had scored only 10 runs for him in six previous games, made the winning run himself after Gene Woodling singled, Reynolds drove him home with a triple and scored himself on Phil Rizzutos single. Rizzuto went to third on Mickey Mantles double and both scored on Yogi Berras single. The last Yankee run came in the ninth on Billy Martins double and Hank Bauers triple. Southpaw pitcher Billy Pierce was lifted after Bauers blow and Howie Judson finished. Mele Homers in Fourth Chicagos run was on Sam Meles fourth inning home run, his fourth round tripper of the season but only his second hit for the White Sox since he was obtained from Washington two weeks ago. Reynolds, though he struck out only three batters, walked only one and gave up only five hits. Pierce, who worked 8 1-3 innings, suffered his fourth defeat against two wins.
