MAE WEST pressed the pace on the outside, took command leaving the tum, was hard put when threatened in the stretch and drew clear. MIRTHFUL, within striking distance from the start, loomed a serious threat on the outside in the stretch and faltered nearing. the end. WAR-ASTER was slow to start, made up ground on the inside and hung. THE WENCH vied for command until nearing the furlong post and weakened. DOCEDOE was slow to start. STEPFAR quit. TOQUILA, well placed from the break under rating, was forced to go slightly wide when ready to make her bid in the stretch and drew out after disposing of the leaders. RINGG0LDIAN shook off ROZS STAR in the stretch when hard put, but was no match for the top one. The latter went up to challenge leaving the turn and weakened ih the drive. DRESS AFFAIR broke slowly. BULLY BUNTING was through after a half mile. HAYWORTHY broke tardily. BRAVE BIM tired badly in the final quarter mile. FREE CAMP, away poorly, moved up between horses and quit after a half mile. BYNG, with the first flight from the start, came around the leaders in the finish run, was drawing away, but had to be eased nearing the end when blocked by the riderless JOSEPH BRANT. -SONATINE, on nearly even terms for command throughout, was forced to ease back at the final hurdle when impeded by JOSEPH BRANT and lacked a closing rally. REDUCE, never far back, moved up to be in command at the final obstacle, but had to be placed in hand for precautionary measures as JOSEPH BRANT Was alongside, then failed to respond when set down for the finish run. LE FAUNE was a sharp factor until the final hurdle and weakened. HERO had a rough trip. FIDDLERS CHOICE made a bad landing at the seventh hurdle. AVONWOOD tired. GILLIE YOUNG, racing beyond the middle of the track throughout, was always a strong contender and held SWEET NAOMI safe in the drive. The latter lost valuable ground when her rider elected to come outside of the wide-running leader, but could not get to him under pressure. HIYA-SAILOR set tHe pace under good rating, but tired slightly as if short. KAYS CHILDREN, took out of close quarters early, made a mild move on the turn, but was not a menace to the top pair. JOHN JOSEPH was going well when his rider switched course to save ground, but never regained his running stride. FANCY FLYER, well placed early, quit. Overweight— Kays Children, 1 pound. ERASER had good speed until inside the furlong post and shortened stride suddenly. MISSION was through after a half mile, as was OUR JOHN WM. FAIR SELF quit. ROYAL CASTLE, allowed to trail early, was forced to go wide when ready to make his bid and came out of the race lame. LINKYTHORN tired.
