Schmidt, Ex-Purdue Gridder, Accepts Chi Card Contract Purdue halfback Neil Schmidt, ninth on the Chicago Cardinals draft list last year, has signed a 1952 contract, coach Joe Kuharich announced yesterday. Schmidt, who finished college a year ago, coached the Rushville, Ind., high school team last year. He was a star at Purdue ! in 1950, gaining 406 yards in 101 carries and 282 yards on 23 pass receptions. He scored only four touchdowns, but two of them came against Notre Dame when Purdue broke the Irish streak of games without defeat at 39. Schmidt, also a basketball star at Purdue, was the 25th player to sign with the Cardinals for 1952.
