Allemand, Hobson Prominent In French Racing, Succumb PARIS, France, May 21 Reuters — Two famed personalities of the French turf died yesterday. Marcel Allemand, well-known French jockey, who rode for Lord Derby on occasions, died at Maisons Lafitte at the age of 50 and Clement Hobson, French owner and breeder of English descent, passed away at his Normandy estate. Both had been ill for a long time. Allemand was a good lightweight jockey, known as "Handicap King." He won the Cambridgeshire in 1928 on Palais Royal and also rode many other big race winners in France. Hobson was considered an authority on breeding and had written many articles on the subject. As an owner he won the Grand Prix de Deauville in 1937 with his filly, Queen of Scots.
