JNITED PRESS . NEWS BRIEFS End of Price Controls Would Be Blow WASHINGTON, D. C, May 27. Price Stabilizer Ellis Arnall said today that death of price controls would be a blow to housewives, farmers and the Armed Forces. Arnall testified before the House banking committee which is studying extension of the defense production act beyond June 30, its scheduled expiration date. Six Western European Nations Sign Treaty PARIS, France, May 27. Six Western European nations including Germany today signed a treaty unprecedented in peace time to merge their armies into one to defend democracy against Communist aggression. Under the treaty the troops of Western Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg will combine to serve under Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway as Allied Supreme Cqmmander, along with separate American, British and Canadian armies. Eisenhower Gets Connecticut Delegates I HARTFORD, Conn., May 27. The Republican State Convention elected 22 delegates to the Chicago National Convention today and supporters of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower claimed them all. Twenty delegates were definitely committed to Eisenhower. Democratic Parties Win Rome Election ROME, Italy, May 27. Italys Democratic party won the dramatic municipal election fight for control of Rome today, but lost Naples, Bari and Foggia to resurgent neo-Fascists who keep the late Benito Mussolinis doctrines alive. McGranery Becomes Attorney General WASHINGTON, D. C, May 27. James P. McGranery became Attorney General today with a promise of vigorous, Taut fair prosecution of all law violators. "This will be done without the terror-harvest of the witchhunt, and without the tumult and chaos that follow in the wake of scare-headlines and in the wake of reckless charges and baseless accusations," McGranery said in a speech after Chief Justice Fred M. Vinson of the Supreme Court administered the oath. Big Three Hold Emergency Meeting PARIS, France, May 27. The Big Three western foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting here tomorrow to discuss the threat of Russian retaliation against the signing of a German peace treaty and a six-nation European army agreement, it was made known today. Senate Will Act Swiftly on Pact WASHINGTON, D. C, May 27. Sen, Tom Connally said today the Senate will act swiftly to ratify the new "peace contract" with Germany. The Texas Democrat, who is chairman of the foreign relations committee, said "well try to ratify it as soon as the President sends it up." He indicated it would be approved. U.S. Catholic Pilgrims Arrive in Spain BARCELONA, Spain, May 27. One thousand Roman Catholic pilgrims from the United States arrived today on the liners Constitution and Independence for the opening of the 35th International Eu-charistic Congress. Defeat Move to Trim Foreign Aid Bill WASHINGTON, D. C, May 27. The Senate today defeated a move to trim an additional ,000,000,000 from the ,900,-000,000 foreign aid bill. The vote was 35 to 27 against the cut. Reds Cut Berlin Phones BERLIN, Germany, May 27. The Russians and their East German Communist henchmen started cutting telephone-telegraph service between West Berlin and the outside world today and barred allied patrols from the lifeline highway to the West.
