r 1 Five Juvenile Colts to Match Strides in National Stallion Tahitian King, Unbeaten in i Two Starts to Date, Choice To Take Belmont Feature By BOB HORWOOD Staff Correspondent BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 27. The fortieth edition of the 0,-000 National Stallion Stakes for two-year-old colts is the feature attraction at Belmont Park tomorrow. Only five youngsters have been named to dispute the five furlongs on the Widener straight course, but this is only slightly below average for the fixture. Ben F. Whitakers Tahitian King who is unbeaten in two starts at this meeting, looms a short-priced favorite, particularly as he receives five pounds from his four rivals .because his young sire, Polynesian, had not sired a winner before December 1, 1950. Eddie Arcaro will ride the husky brown colt, who is out of Carolyn A., a stakes-winning mare named for his daughter. Tahitian King will be opposed by Hal Price Headleys King Pin, Eugene Constan-tin, Jr.s, Romantic Roman, Cain Hoy Stables Wingdinger and Silas A. Mason II.s Tidewater. King Pin showed improvement in his last start, the son of Menow finishing third to Count Trim and Centime here. Count Trim extended Tahitian King in that colts last outing. Ted Atkinson will ride King Pin, a son of Menow. Ran Dead Heat in Last Romantic Roman also showed considerable improvement in his last start, turning in a stubborn effort to gain a dead heat with the highly regarded Doc Walker and finishing four lengths before Platan, who came back to win two races, including one from which he was disqualified. Wingdinger was fifth behind Romantic Roman, finishing well then ran third behind Tahitian King and Dr. Stanley in the favorites debut. Gerald Porch will ride Romantic Roman, while Ray York will be on Wingdinger. Tidewater, who will have the services of Bill Boland, showed little in his only start, a race won by Centime, but was well-played. He may improve off that race, in which he had early speed. Tahitian King blew out a speedy three-eighths in :34 on Monday morning. Romantic Roman and Wingdinger were seen on the Belmont training track this morning, going the same distance in :37 and :38, respectively. Tidewater came down three furlongs of the chute in :35. Evidence that the cough, which has retarded the juveniles in this area, has departed was provided by the first race tomorrow, for which 31 babes have been entered. Several of these maidens will probably be seen in stakes events later on, their development having been delayed.
