Larry MacPhail Resigns From Maryland Breeders Action Reported Due to Dispute Over Entry in Yearling Show BEL AIR, Md., May 27. Larry S. MacPhail, Marylands leading breeder of thoroughbred horses for the sales ring and president of the Bowie race track, has tendered his resignation as a member and director of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. It was believed that MacPhails action was the result of a dispute over an entry in a Maryland-bred yearling at the Pimlico track on May 15. In addition, the former baseball official has returned to the association all trophies and ribbons taken by his yearlings at the Pimlico show. MacPhail, owner of the 800-acre Glen-angus Farm near here, also is president of the National Association of Thoroughbred Breeders. He resigned from the Maryland group in a letter to Humphrey S. Finney, field secretary of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. The letter stated: "Certain statements made to me by the president of the association and remarks by a director of the association reflecting upon Mr. Kenney Charles A. Kenney, judge of the yearling show and myself have caused me to conclude after careful consideration that I should resign as a member and director. "Will you please accept this as a letter of resignation as of May 19, 1952?" The president of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association is Walter A. Edgar of Ellicott City. He was reluctant to make any comment on the situation although he confirmed the fact that MacPhail had resigned. Apparently there has been some question as to the eligibility to the Maryland Horse Breeders Association show of a son of Grand Slam and Belle Equipe, which was. made a late entry by MacPhail and adjudged the grand champion by Kenney. It has been reported that a former em-plqye at MacPhails farm informed the show committee that the colt picked as the grand champion was not foaled in Maryland but in Kentucky. The Pimlico show was for Maryland-bred yearlings exclusively. j
