I : ; , Powelland Williams Lead Riders at Ak-Sar-Ben. Meet OMAHA, Nebr., . May 27. Taylor Lee Powell and Sonny Ray Williams share honors today as the leading jockeys at the Ak-Sar-Ben track after the first five days of the Omaha organizations current meeting. Powell and Williams lead the rider pack each with a first week total of 36 points on the basis of six points for a win, two for a place and one for show. Powell, a 20-year-old who hails from Newhall, Calif., has been up on four winners and has ridden j five place and two show mounts Williams, a 22-year-old product of Electra, Texas, now has five winners, two seconds and two thirds. Powell rides for the Monahanj Stables and Williams is contract rider for the Oklahoma horseman, Seymour Snelling. j Close on the heels of the leaders is another Texan, 19-year-old Johnny. Mack Brooks, who was in the winners circle, three times Saturday to boost his total to i 32 points. In fourth place is the veteran Ak-Sar-Ben rider, Tom Osment, Jr., of Nowata, Okla., who has five winners and one third for 31 points. An apprentice rider, 17-year-old Clarence Ford of Canton, HI., contract rider for Mrs. Sadie L. Foley, completes the select group with a 4-1-3 tally for 29 points. At the conclusion of the 35-day Ak-Sar-Ben meeting, July 5, the leading jockey of this meet will be awarded a large, handsome gold trophy cup by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben.
