Brown Brown Booter Booter Surprises Surprises at at Belmont; Belmont; Gala Gala Fete Fete in in Winning Winning Seasonal Seasonal Bow Bow Reaches Wire Six Lengths in Clear Walmac Ace Picks Up Where He Left Off Last Autumn at Churchill; Cullerton Second By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 7. — Walmac Farms Gain Fete, who was making her first start since a winning engagement last autumn, streaked to a convincing victory here this afternoon in the Jeffersonville purse. Taken to the front at the start by Johnny Heckmann, the Walmac filly romped away from nine rivals and swept under the wire with a six lengths advantage, scoring with speed in reserve. Second honors in the six-furlong feature went to Bernard W. Landys Cullerton, who was along in the last strides to nip Mrs. H. Allen Campbells A-Pacopep by a nose for that end of the spoils while Mr. and Mrs. James R. Collins Biddy Bid saved fourth money. Gala Fete, a four-year-old homebred daughter of Heliopolis and Gala Event, shouldered 114 pounds under the Jeffersonville allowances and raced the three-quarters mile over the slow track in* a creditable l:121/5. She was a 9 to 5 chance to capture her third straight purse. Establishes Lead Quickly Gala Fete went to the front immediately, quickly establishing a good lead over Brown Hotel Stables Ave in the run to the upper turn, then steadily increased her advantage as she approached the stretch. Moving into the home lane, the Walmac miss shook off Ave and drew out to win just about as Heckmann pleased, while Cullerton, who had been far back early, came with a rush to take second from A-Pacopep, a sharp factor the entire trip. Biddy Bid failed to stay after displaying early foot and Ave, weary from her early duel with Gala Fete, dropped back during the drive and was a soundly-beaten seventh at the wire. A crowd of approximately 7,500 turned out for the sport at the Central Avenue course and the gathering was treated to exciting and rather formful racing. Show-Continued on Page Forty -Two Gale Fete Impressive Winner In Seasonal Bow at Downs Continued from Page One ers early in the afternoon left the track sloppy for the initial half of the card but the footing improved as the matinee progressed, the sun breaking through just before the field for the fourth race was called to the post. Jockeys Johnny Adams and Darrell Madden registered doubles before the feature was decided. Adams scored astride Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Greathouses Prince Adaris in the mile and one-sixteenth third and with Goshen Stables Air Mail in the six and one-half furlongs fourth. Madden chalked up his victories with Mrs. C. P. Bowles consistent Michigan Kid in the six-furlong fourth and then hustled Floyd and Colliers Big Hearted home first in the fifth event at a similar distance. Prince Adaris was held at 7 to 1 to trim five rivals in the second, Michigan Kid was 6 to 5 to garned his third straight and sixth purse in 12 outing this year, while Air Mail returned 17 to 10 after earning his third success in but five Kentucky engagements this spring. Big Hearted, partial to the prevailing "off" strip, was a 31 to 5 chance in the straight "tote" pool.
