Second in the six-furlong dash was J. G. Hills Our Dorie, who finished a nose before T. P. Morgans Plus Fours. Little Step, second choice in the betting, paid .80 and covered the distance over a good track in 1:12 Vs. Jockey Armando Martinez was astride the winning five-year-old. Rain, which has been the order of the day most afternoons, fell through the early part of the program and the day was a damp and unpleasant one. Algasir, one of the sprinting champions of New England, was making his seasonal debut in this allowance race and was top-weighted under the conditions with 122 pounds. Little Step took the lead soon after the break, while Algasir, who also was away on top, dropped back to last in the run down the backstretch. Our Dorie and Exemplar took turns pushing the leader as they went down the backstretch. i Rounding the turn, Little Step was still in front, while Our Dorie moved up again from fourth place and Algasir slipped between horses and came over on the rail. Little Step was daylight clear in the run home and Our Dorie was under a hard drive but unable to make any inroads on the leader. Plus Fours now came up with a rush and was flying, but just dropped a nose decision for second to the filly. Algasir, down on the rail was another length and a half out of the money. John Choquette was the riding star of the early program, booting home two favorites, Five Star in the second and Twig Lee in the seventh.
