Says Ted Williams Recall Costs U.S. 0,000 Tax WASHINGTON, D. C, May 7 UP.— Rep. Donald W. Nicholson R-Mass. said today the government is losing 0,000 in taxes because Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams, one of baseballs highest paid players, was called to active duty as a Marine pilot. Nicholson cited the case of Williams as an example of "poor judgment" by the government in calling older men to active duty. Nicholson, made the statement during the house rules committee consideration of an extension of the so-called doctors draft. He said Williams is 34, but was called to duty in Korea even though, he said pilots arent considered much good after 30. The 0,000 "loss" apparently is the difference between the governments tax on Williams baseball earnings and his pay as a Marine flier. Nicholson did not specify how long a period was covered in his estimate of the tax loss.
