Ten Speedsters Named For Suffolks Haverhill Entry of Warrens Gray, Usual May Be Choice in Sprint Event By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 7. — The Merrimac Valley, a section of Massachusetts near the New Hampshire state line and recently made famous because it reared Tony DeSpirito, Harold "Red" Keene, Dick McLaughlin and now a promising apprentice in William Walsh, is honored here at Suffolk Downs tomorrow. A trio of allowance events have been named the Lowell, the Haverhill, and the Billerica, the first two representing two large industrial cities in the community and the latter a town adjoining Lowell. The Haverhill looms as the best of the feature events, being styled for four-year-olds and upward at six furlongs for a purse of ,500. Ten speedsters representing seven different interests are included in the overnight entries. Sid Bernstein, a native of Lowell, holds a strong hand in the dash with his Warrens Gray and Usual. To add to the chances of the pair, DeSpirito has been named on Warrens Gray and McLaughlin is slated to handle Usual. The other two couplings, G. R. Wyn-hoffs Southern Cookn and Valpam; Henry Forrests Inlet Miss and Traveler, are sure to attract their share of support. Whether it is the intention of the connections of the Wynhof f or Forrest couplings to start both their charges will be answered tomorrow at scratch time as the contract riders in each instance have been named on both horses. Johnny Choquette rides for Wynhof f, and Dudley Vandenborre does the booting for the Forrest outfit. J. J. Nashs Special Nurse passed up todays feature to run in the Haverhill and will have the services of Marshall Wilder. The New Moon miss raced with good success during the winter months in Florida and can not be overlooked in this field. W. C. Pricketts The Minor, J. C. Montanas Atomic Fire and Garrigan and Co-banis George W. W. round out the field. The Lowell, restricted to sophomores, is at six furlongs for a ,500 purse and has attracted six overnight starters. Sun Jeep, Fight a Little, Domquil, Coherence, Mint-away and Bendigo comprise the sextet and that race also appears to be of an interesting nature. The Billerica, also for three-year-olds, is at a mile and 70 yards for ,000 and has drawn eight. Teacake, Stevie Boy, Little Lucky, Folly Mills, Mr. G, On Speck, Wahoo and Ruths Boy have been named. The latter pair are owned by G. R. Wyn-hoff and will be coupled.
