UNITED PRESS 1 NEWS BRIEFS Asks All-Out Attack NEW YORK, N. Y., May 7.— Gen. James A. Van Fleet said today an all-out effort by United Nations forces in Korea would bring the Reds to us "begging" for peace. The former Eighth Army commander in Korea said we "run the risk of throwing away the future of our nation" by continuing the present peace talks with the Chinese Reds. POW Proposal to Washington PANMUNJOM, Korea, May 7.— A Communist proposal that anti-Red war prisoners be kept in Korea in custody of five neutral nations pending their -final disposition was sent to Washington today for high-level instructions. » Atomic Test Postponed LAS VEGAS, Nev., May 7.— The most elaborate atomic test ever held in the United States, originally scheduled between 8 and 8:30 a. m. PDT today, was postponed for 24 hours because of unfavorable weather conditions. Report Three U.S. Warships Damaged SEOUL, Korea, May 7. — The Navy disclosed today that Communist shore batteries have hit and damaged three U. S. warships since Saturday while the vessels i were bombarding Wonsan, on the Korean East Coast. Says Reds in U.S. Clergy NEW YORK, N. Y., May 7.— Rep. Harold H. Velde R-Hl., chairman of the House Un-American Activities Committee, said today he is convinced "hardened and well-trained Communists" have been planted in the American clergy. U.S. Warships Shell Coast SEOUL, Korea, May 7. — Three American warships defied Communist shore batteries today by steaming into Wonsan Harbor and shelling the battered East port coast again. Vanderberg to Retire June 30 WASHINGTON, D. C, May 7.— The air force today accepted the request of Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, air force chief of staff, to be retired from service June 30, when his present term is completed. Red Troops Withdrawn HANOI, Indo-China, May 7.— Communist Vietminh troops back-tracked northward through Laos today in a mysterious withdrawal and a French spokesman said the Reds may be abandoning their invasion of the ancient Indo-Chinese kingdom. Dulles in Cairo Parley CAIRO, Egypt, May 7.— U. S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles will confer here Monday with Premier Mohammed Naguib and Foreign Minister Mahmoud Fawzi, the foreign ministry announced today.
