; 4 . : Bella Figura Takes Cinderella With Sensational Stretch Rush Heayily Played Combs Miss Overtakes Gala Fete Under Adept Handling of Adams ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 23. — The heavily played favorite, Bella Figura, staged a sensational stretch rush here this afternoon to win the featured Cinderella Purse, which was at six furlongs. The daughter of Count Fleet, as usual, lacked early speed, but her charge brought her up to and past the pacesetting Gala Fete in the last sixteenth and she was going away at the end under ordinary hand riding by jockey Johnny Adams. Gala Fete was easily second best, with Doug Dod-son in the saddle, and third place was taken by Eddie Arcaros mount, Jacodema, making her first start hereabouts. The race was for fillies and mares exclusively and a field of six contested. Bella Figura paid .00 and ran the distance in 1:10. Second Start of Year / The winning filly, a four-year-old who campaigned rather extensively at Arlington Park last summer, and on one occasion was second to Real Delight, was making her second start of the year. Her- prior effort was at the recent Lincoln Fields session in which she finished second to Princess Lygia, who was her running mate on that occasion, both being trained by Harry Trotsek. The miss, who" is owned by Brow-nell Combs, indicated by her race today that she will probably be a factor in the distance races coming up for fillies and mares. A crowd of 10,355 attended on the second day of the session, and the weather, while Continued on Page Forty-Three Bella Figura Closes Fast To Triumph in Cinderella Combs Miss Vindicates Stout Support to Overtake Gala Fete Continued from Page One a trifle cooler than that of opening day, was pleasant. A 2 Daily Double resulted when Foxie Fish awon the first race and Deep Margie took the second. Deep Margie, a three-year-old filly, in scoring her third success, beat a large field, all of whom but one were maidens. The daughter of Depth Charge was the favorite and won over Seco Girl, while Babys Pal, only other contestant ever to have scored, was third. Bailey rode Deep Margie, while John Heckmann was on Foxie Fish. _ Eddie Arcaro and Gerry Frank, the latter owned by" Mrs. Herbert Herff, proved a wininng combination in the third. Gerry Frank was second choice, with Waravid being favored. The best Waravid could do was take third money, Brookshire being second. Arcaro came right back in the fourth race, when he had Dixianas Ladykin home in front. Ladykin had never been postward previously but performed like a seasoned trouper under the urging of her strong jockey. She never strayed from the rait arid defeated Natchez Girl narrowly in a drive, with Brook Flower finishing third. Ladykin is by Spy Song — The Knitter, by High Time, and was bred by C. T. Fisher, owner of Dixiana. Despite her inexperience she was well backed. The favored Eternal Quest took the fifth, with Al Popara aboard. Eternal Quest had the speed of the party, but was required to repel several challenges and was doing his best at the end to hold off King. The race was for maiden three-year-olds, and it was the second start ever for Eternal Quest, who is owned by Mrs. Ada L. Rice, and was bred at that ladys Danada Farm, near Arlington Park.
