Eight Fast Juveniles in Christiana By Jeepers, I Appeal Renew Rivalry at Delaware Course Porterhouse Comes On From New York for Stake Fresh From National Stallion Tally By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 23. — Featuring a trio of stakes winners in Brookfield Farms I Appeal, Allen H. Smiths By Jeepers, and Llangollen Farms Porterhouse, eight crack"two-year-olds have been named to dash five and one-half furlongs in the 16th edition, of the 0,000 added Christiana Stakes. Supporting the juvenile fixture will be the fourth Mont-chanin Handicap, a five-race series which increases weekly in value and distance. Each member of the aforementioned trio will carry 125 pounds, while the others will be. asked to handle 116 pounds, with the exception of Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs War of Roses, who gets the maiden allowance and who will operate under a 113 -pound burden. War of Roses will have a stable companion in Cobblers Bench, while Mrs. Henry A. Parr, m.s Staffordshire, Bayard Sharps Troy Weigh6 and Harmony Farms Old Rocky round out the field. By Jeepers and I Appeal have not raced since the Dover Stakes, in which they finished first and second as named. That race marked the first defeat for I Appeal, who had registered three successive victories, including the Bowie Kindergarten. He has since trained splendidly and recently shaded a minute in a five-furlong morning spin. By Jeepers, a consistent son of War Jeep, boasts a trio of victories, a pair of seconds and a third in his six-race career. The jockey arrangement will be the same as in the Dover, with Sam Boulmetis astride By Jeepers and Bobby Mitchell on I Appeal. Boland to Ride Porterhouse Porterhouse, who has caused the pundits to remark that he is a natural stake-horse, comes from a victory in the National Stallion Stakes, in which he took the measure of Best Years and Catspaw. The Endeavour n. cojt has been beaten only once in three starts and is certain to attract considerable support. He will be ridden by Bill Boland. Staffordshire, like Porterhouse, is a son of Endeavour XL and has won two of his three starts, having finished second in his debut. He was especially impressive last Saturday when he downed a smart field while running five-eighths here in :59. He will again be ridden by Willie Passmore. War of Roses and Cobblers Bench make up a strong entry, despite the fact that the first named is a maiden. The English-bred made his debut last week and finished second to Open and Shut while tiring badly in the final yards. Until midstretch, he was merely coasting in front, and the race figures to do him a world of good. Cobblers Bench, prior to finishing second behind Staffordshire, was a local winner. Old Rocky and Troy Weight are the outsiders in the field, with-each boasting a victory. Old Rocky twice finished first, but was disqualified on one occasion. Troy Weight hasnt won since Florida, where he was quite impressive in taking his debut. He last raced in New Jersey and flattened out badly to finish far behind Blenfly after a brief display of speed. Stop and Look, who won the first two Montchanins, ran out of opposition in the race and owner-trainer Paul Kelley has kept him out of the other runnings in order to save the race. The winner of the No. 3 running, Tape Reader, will be back, tomorrow, however, and will face Lebanon Lad, Dai-quari, Monte, Gay Count, Windy, Boston Platter and Appease Not, with the last two racing coupled. This weeks edition will be at the mile and one-half distance for a purse of ,500. y ► CLAY SUTPH1N— Saddles By Jeepers in the Christiana.
