Candidate Choice of 1 1 In River Downs Sprint Will Attempt to Start Another Win Streak; Royal Charles Rival By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 23. — A six-furlong sprint race, under allowance conditions, the one brigh spot on an otherwise lusterless nine-race program, has been given vthe feature spot on the Wednesday program at River Downs and entitled the Terrace Plaza Hotel Purse. Racing secretary Eugene Burys finely-written condition book failed to stand the test of the entry boxes and a schedule of "fill in" races had to be arranged which saw one race split four ways. Ed Buntings Candidate, Kay Spauldings Pickens, Peterson "and Mulfingers Gayleo, M. H. Prices Platter Scout, E. Sorbers Ferol S., Mrs. J. Nobles Boy Blue and R. Langsdorfs Royal Charles appear the main entrants in the eleven-horse field, which is filled but by B. R. Morrows Task, C. Deans Jr. Ireland, Paducah Farms Sietteor and W. H. Mays Miss Jato. Candidate must be given strong preference in this race despite the fact that the gelding raced Monday when his four-straight win streak was snapped by Sonny Brown. The Bleu dOr — Scarlet Insco gelding still has a remarkable five for eight win record this season and has defeated most of the assorted challengers in .the field tomorrow. Royal Charles will be making his first start in the Langsdorf colors having been claimed from his last winning race in which he downed several in the Wednesday feature. The Lucky Tom — Royal, Lena gelding will be meeting Candidate for the first time and a lively battle should ensue. Pickens is another recent winner much suited by the allowance conditions of the race. Pickens came out of winter quarters to score at first asking over the River Downs racing strip. Trainer H. W. Steele has had ample time to keep his charge racing fit since that race and the gelding should run the same bang-up effort.
