Reade Castle was first to show in front as the field was sent away by Bill Shamer-horn in the chute at the head of the stretch. Fifan was second, Freddie Baum third and Stony Snark, fourth. Racing past the stands for the first time, Reade Castle was in front, but by a scant head 9 vec Lady Santo who was on Reade Castles outside. On the backstretch, Lady Santo moved to the fore and after three furlongs had reversed the tables on Reade Castle and led that one by a head. Soon, thereafter the eventual winner drew away and racing into the far turn had a length and one-half advantage and was now saving ground. At the furlong marker jockey Reynolds reached down and hit the mare several times to keep her from loafing and she responded gamely, drawing further in front in the final sixteenth of a mile. J. K. Wynkoops Judge O. moved along smartly through the late stretch to earn a nose decision in the fifth race. He was-given an excellent ride by Willie Downs and paid .00 as the second choice. Cold Spy was second, a head the better of Bull Ford, who was in along the rail in the blanket finish. Time for the mile and oge furlong was 1:57%. At the furlong marker, Bull Ford was in front by a length, with Cold Spy still in closest pursuit and Judge O. moving up gamely while on the extreme outside of the field in third spot. At the sixteenth pole, Cold Spy, who was between Judge O". and Bull Ford, moved up to gain a narrow lead, but he could not hold the son of Hairan in the final jumps and had to settle for the place award. Judge O. was winning his third race of the year for trainer Bill Bell. The veteran campaigner has been out 18 times already this season and started 44 times last year.
