To Market Is Retired; Has Fractured Sesamoid Was Injured in Massachusetts; To" Enter Stud in Kentucky Later AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 23.— King Ranchs To Market has been retired from racing and .will later be sent to Kentucky to serve in the stud, it was learned today. The huge son of Market Wise — Pretty Does, by Johnstown, suffered a fractured sesamoid bone in a foot while leading in the recent Massachusetts Handicap, which he had won in track record time the previous year. The five-year-old had won his first race on a Long Island track at Belmont Park in June, then finished second to Post Card in the Brandywine Handicap at Delaware Park before ending his career at Suffolk Downs. To Market joins a long list of first-class thoroughbreds who have been sidelined with fractures, bowed tendons or somewhat less serious injuries in recent months, the .roster including Battlefield, Dark Star, Tribe, Laffango, Straight Face, Sea. Legs, Intent, Correspondent, Bryan G., Hitex and, possibly,. Invigorator. The latter was reported to have thrown a stifle during the running of the Kent Stakes at Delaware, a minor injury, but it was noted while he was in the receiving barn before that race that he had a large lump, suggesting a pulled muscle, inside one thigh near his testicles.
