The Shawnee consignment of yearlings to the Keeneland Summer Sales is unique in that all of the dozen youngsters are colts. We expect to have another look at them later. The quality of the mares that a stallion serves m Ins first season at stud can have a great influence on his entire career and there are some matrons that John A. Bell designates as "somewhat fancy- among those reported in foal to County Delight. Halcyon Days is a half-sister to Counterpoint, Lovable is a half-sister to the dam of Battlefield, Wings of Wrath is a full sister to Rippey, Tileul is a half-sister to Tea-Maker . and a full sister to Sweet Dream. Probably in foal to the son of Count Fleet are Mermaid, a half-sister by Blenheim to Citation, and the imported mare, Aero — Comet, by Hyperion. The" latter mare is a fill sister to Fairy Pool, the highest priced mare sold at auction in England and dam of River War, who is to stand at Jpnabell Stables next season. Blades of Blue Grass: Alex Gordon tells us that Bonded Joe, a name of implications in these parts, Sun, who won rather convincingly in his first start at the Hawthorne course last week, is the first of the get of Eiffel Tower since that stallion was moved from California to stand at the Elmhurst Frrm of T. Owen Campbell. The colt is from Campbells .Flying Heels mare, Speed Streak, veho was the first mare bred to Eiffel Tower in Kentucky and the youngster was "bred, raised and broke" at Elmhurst where his sure stands under Gordons management. . .Lin Howard plans to attend the dispersal sale July 24 of the Binglin Stock Farm of Bing Crosby and himself at the California ranch. Following that sale, Howard will fly to Lexington to be present when the Binglin and Ridgewood yearlings are sold at Keeneland the night of Tuesday, July 28. Arthur B. Hancock, Jr. has high hopes for the matronly qualities of the seven-year-old mare, Careless Nora, whom he bought recently in England and. who now is at Claiborne. By Panorama — Careless, the mare has a colt foal by Rising Light at her side and is in foal to Fair Trial. Rated with the best two-year-old fillies of her year, Careless Nora is said to have been Englands top sprinter at three. Panorama was rated fourth on the English broodmare sire list and is noted for the keen speed he delegates to his get... .Arthur Eilerman, vice-president and general manager at Tat-tersalls here for several years, now has Continued on Page Thirty-Nine t Blue Grass Happenings Continued from Page Tyro become associated with Ed Keller at Mount Vernon Raceway near Syracuse, N. Y., and several other trotting tracks. Eilerman is a veteran of the Eddy administration at Fair-mount Park. Jack Hare will take to England on June 26 the two yearling fillies purchased by Lord Astor from Claiborne. The youngsters are by Black Tarquin and .Count Fleet. On his return trip it is expected that Hare* will bring back the mare, Dark Rose, who was purchased in England by Harry F. Guggenheim and who is a full sister to the Derby winner and prominent stallion, Dante. Dark Rose is in foal to the crack racer, My Babu and has a filly foal at her side by Prince Chevalier., . Howard Reineman of Crown Crest Farm informs us that he has been deluged with offers for the purchase of or partnership in the stallion, Littletown, whom he recently secured for a pittance, but now is in demand primarily as a result of the success of his stakes winning daughter, Jay Jay Gee. The Reinemans prefer to give Littletown a chance at Crown Crest with some select mares.
