Country Editor Takes Up 124 in Sesqui-Centennial Winner of First Race in Series To Engage Excel and Even Better CR AN WOOD PARK, Warrensville Heightst Ohio, June 23.— The second in the series of Sesqui-Centennial Handicaps will headline the nine-race program here tomorrow afternoon. A limit field of 10 has been entered and they are scheduled to match strides at one mile and three furlongs for a purse of ,800. The handicap will be run as the ninth event. An allow ance test for three-year-olds and upward will be run as the seventh race and it, too, should provide much interest. The following have been named in the Sesqui-Centennial: Little Joe Jr.; Country Editor, Excel, Is I Me, November Morn, Even Better, Miriams Boy, Sweep Clean, As Ordered and Brown Pat. Two horses, Battlebuz and Bob o Nick, are on the "also eligible" list. Country Editor, owned by Sheppard and Mazza, will be asked to carry 124 pounds, six more than he carried to victory in the first of the series on June 13 when he defeated many of these same horses by a length and one-quarter at a mile and one furlong. In that race, Country Editor was 4 forwardly placed from the outset and was drawing clear through the late stretch. However, whether he will be able to successfully pick up this extra poundage and at a longer test is problematical. J. K. Wynkoops Excel was fifth in the aforementioned race, beaten only three and one-quarter lengths under 113 pounds. He will take off two pounds tomorrow and appears in an excellent position to win this race. In Excels other outing over the local course he closed like a "wild horse" through the stretch, finishing second to Glorys Chance. Excel will be ridden by the veteran saddle star, Willie Downs. H. L. McDonalds Even Better has been idle since the Ascot Park Gold Cup, in . which the handsome son of Broke Even finished eighth. He has several very good races at that plant in preparation for th« Cup, and any return to his winning Ascol form could spell trouble for Country Editor and Excel. Even Better will be asked to carry 119 pounds.
