JR. raced in closest attendance of the pace under stout restraint, moved up to vie for command nearing the furlong pole, and had to be hard ridden to forge to the front in the final strides. ROYAL FLORIDA drew clear at once, was placed under stout restraint down the backstretch, saved ground and proved stubborn when challenged. TENN. TOMMY rallied from off the pace with a late rush. CLOVER LADY showed a good effort. RUTH and MADAME DEFARGE were outrun. REGAL STONE, steadied close to the pace, was moving to the leaders on the final turn when he broke down in his right front and had to be pulled up. SPIDER ROCK moved readily when roused, slipped through along the inside on the final turn, came outside of the leader to assume command and drew out under urging. TIO TITO, restrained when outrun to the first turn, assumed command along the inside after a half-mile, saved ground and held on gamely when challenged. PUCKETEER closed with a late burst of speed. POTTERAC went evenly. CRACK THE WHIP had no mishap. HYOPOLIS was unable to keep up and lacked a rally when roused. FINCHHAVEN weakened.
