William Constantine, Veteran New York Official, Succumbs AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 26.— William Constantine, 51, who had served as an official at the New York trades for the past 10 years, died last night at New York Hospital, where he had been a patient for three weeks, suffering from arthritis. Bill Constantine came to the race track as a boy of 12 under the tutelage of Otto Rasch, and later rode with success both on the fiat and over the jumps. He later became foreman for trainer Cary Winfrey and in 1931 became an assistant starter under Marshall Cassidy. Bill continued as an assistant starter under George Cassidy until 1943, when Marshall appointed him a patrol judge. Constantine left documentary evidence of the affectionate esteem in which he was held by his fellow officials and by horsemen orrLong Island in the form of a "get well" card, wrhich had been sent him last week and which was covered with the signatures of more than 100 of his friends- on the race track. He is survived by his wife, Lillian, and his 11-year-old .son, James, who reside at 84-40 107th Street, Richmond Hill, L. I. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
