Phillies Place Second Prep Hurling Ace Under Contract PHILADELPHIA, Pa., May 28 UP . — The Philadelphia Phillies today announced the signing of Ernie Tabor, 18, widely sought Little Rock, Ark., pitching prospect and his assignment to Three Rivers, Quebec, in the Provencial league. Tabor, a high school and American Legion sensation, stands six feet, three inches and was sought by nearly all of the major league clubs. The youngster is a right hander. Tabor was the second ~ outstanding schoolboy star nabbed in the Southwest by Phils scout Pat Patterson this week. The first prize grab was Jimmy Golden of Silver Lake, Kan., also a right hander standing six feet and weighing 175. Golden starred in high school and in the Legion play. He was sent to Matoon, HI., and made his debut Wednesday night by pitching a one-hitter and fanning 12 batters.
