NEW HAVEN-saved ground establishing his early lead, was rated along to the stretch, then held the opposition safe under punishment YARDMASTER raced in clos* attendance to the winner, but could not gain in the final drive. BOBS BOOTS saved ground entering contention on the turn, then hung. CHIEF LOCO was a prominent factor and dropped back racing very wide on the turn. AIR ATTACK was taken back being carried wide on the first turn and did not menace thereafter. BAMBOO had no mishap. PERIPOSE closed a gap. MY RETORT quit. SONFAR raced within striking distance, but lugged in badly from the final turn and kept throwing his*head up, as Hartack shaded him with the whip and wore down SLIDE APART in the last strides. The latter was a keen factor and headed CALM WARRIOR when urged: entering the stretch, disposed of that one and just failed to last. PADDYS DAY was slow settling into stride, then closed with a rush in the last three-sixteenths. CALM WARRIOR dueled for the pace into the stretch, then faltered when punished. SECOND BARREL, steadied after the start until dear, joined the dueling leaders Just inside the last furlong and responded when punished in the final strides to take the decision. HIT BIT was hustled through on the rail to take the lead soon after the start, repulsed challenges under brisk urging and held on well. CERULIA began alertly and was rated just off of the pace, then could not dispose of HIT BIT when urged entering the stretch and hung. ZUYDER ZEE worked around horses on the final turn and closed fastest of all. RISDON was a keen early factor and weakened. HIYA BABE was crowded inside of EXPLOSIVE midway the turn. REALIST was outrun. GRAND RISK showed little. ALIDON was pinched back sharply inside HIYA BABE on the turn. MON ADINE WAS FRACTIOUS AND INJURED HERSELF IN THE PADDOCK. BLUE LAW, well placed, was strongly ridden in the last guarter mile, but could not get up. LARKCHORD was done early. PLIANT bore out on the turn. ROCK DOZER gave a poor effort. GALCIBO was shuffled back in the run to the first turn, then was blocked just above the eighth pole and had little chance. MARYS BUBBLE faltered. SAKR-EL-BAHR, carried wide on the first turn, gradually gained closer contention while in hand, but weakened when called upon in the last guarter mile. BANJOIST could not keep up and was well back into the stretch, then closed well. TOPBRASS dashed to the front, but could not outrun WHENCE after the initial quarter and guit. PUNKIN VINE was lucky finding racing room next to the rail throughout and was smartly reserved, then closed determinedly in the final stretch and outfinished NIGHT BAKER. The latter raced to the front under restraint settling into the backstretch, remained in hand to the last furlong, then failed to stay under punishment. GRANULE was rated with the pace, then weakened when set down for the drive. JOHN B. P., crowded entering the first turn, lost distance being guided outside of horses and weakened. REUNION wore down contention racing on the outside, swiftly overhauled RAZZBERRY to open a clear lead in the stretch and lasted to hold SOAKIN WET safe. The latter began improving position after a half mile, came through on the inside for the final stages and finished fast.
