Seventeen Monmouth Stakes To Close Tuesday, June 1 OCEANPORT, N.* J., May 28.— Nominations for 17 stakes races — worth a record 85,000 in added money— will close at-Monmouth Park on Tuesday, general manager Edward J. Brennan reminded horsemen today. The final eligibility payment for the 5,000 New Jersey Futurity Stakes also is due on that date. Monmouth Parks 50-day meeting opens on Saturday, June 12, and closes on August 9. Nominations already received exceed those for the corresponding period last year, according to racing secretary John Turner, Jr., who attributes this to the increased stakes endowment and the fact that Monmouth will distribute nearly ,000,000 in overnight purses. Monmouth Parks 1954 stakes program again is headed by the 0,000 Monmouth Oaks and the 0,000 Monmouth Handicap. The Oaks, is to be run on Saturday, August 7, and the Monmouth Handicap, increased 0,000 in value since last season, is to be renewed July 24.
