Pet Bully to Head 4 Twelve in Fixture Seeks Fourth Straight Win While Packing 126 Pounds And Spotting Eaton town Ten By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 28. — The Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association, which has conducted annual race meetings at Delaware Park since 1937, with the exception of 1943 when war conditions made it impossible, tomorrow launches a session of 32 days duration. Post time is scheduled for 2 p. m. daily and a total of 14 stakes events, with added money totaling 10,000, will be renewed before the closing on July 5. Richest race of the meeting is the 00,000 added New Castle Handicap, the most lucrative filly -and mare race in the country. Other high-ranking fixtures are the Leonard Richards and Delaware Oaks, each of which carries added money of 2,500 and is run under futurity conditions, thus swelling the winners share of the purse considerably. Traditional opening-day feature is the 0,000 added* Wilmington Handicap, which has again attracted an outstanding field for its sixteenth running at the six-furlong distance. Entered to carry topweight of 126 pounds is Mrs. Ada L. Rices Pet Bully, who has been freshened a bit since his Valley Forge victory over Royal Vale. Pet Bully will be conceding 10 pounds to the second highweight, who is Alfred Roberts Eatontown, last years Wilmington winner. Hyphasis Carries 114 Rounding out the field of 12 for the Inaugural feature will be the following: Belair Studs Hyphasis, 114; Marlboro Stud Farms Jet Master, 113; Mrs. Chester A. Lyons Penocc, 112; Howell E.- Jacksons Caesar Did, 111; Filippo Baldis Dinner Winner, 110; Brookmeade Stables Safety, I. J. Collins Mohammedan arid Stanley C. Mikells Repetoire, 108 apiece; George D. Wideners Scent, 107, and William P. Foleys Huntsville, 100 pounds. Pet Bully, who was rested for about three and one-half months after being unplaced oh New Years day at Santa Anita, is undefeated in three eastern appearances, preceding his Valley Forge victory with a pair of sprint successes at Bowie, Md. He is, admittedly, not a sound thoroughbred, but he is capable of beating top members of the handicap division at any distance when going in top condition. He will be ridden by the Rice contract rider, young Willie Hartack. Eatontown, as mentioned previously, will be seeking his second successive Wilmington score, having established a time record for the race last season while being timed in 1:10%. The veteran has retained peak form through his many seasons of campaigning and in his last start lowered the seven-furlong track standard in winning the Bowie Handicap in 1:23% for his fourth victory of the year. • Joe Culmone will handle the eight-year-old Easton gelding. Fighting Fox Victor in 1939 Hyphasis, a frequent stakes victor in past •seasons, will be striving for his first score in such company this year, though he boasts a pair of victories in allowance company. He will endeavor to make it a Wilmington double for the Belair Stud, Fighting Fox having taken the 1939 running under Jim Fitzsimmons tutelage. Jess Higley will be down to do the saddle honors. Second in the past two runnings of the Wilmington, and a leading aspirant tomorrow is Jet Master, a five-year-old son of Jet Pilot. Jet Master turned in several swift trials in New York for tomorrows race, after having been idle since late-February in Miami. Jimmy Stout is named astride Jet Master. Caesar Did and Scent were shipped here from New York with the race in view and cannot be completely overlooked. Caesar Did was a Maryland winner early in the year, then was second behind White Skies in the Toboggan. In his last start he raced exceedingly well to be two lengths off Porterhouse and Hilarious in 1:11%. Scent has been, unsuccessful in three starts this year and in his last appearance was beaten off by White Skies in the Roseben. Maryland horses- include Safety, Dinner Winner, Repetoire and Penocc. The first-named Brookmeade gelding hasnt faced the starter since mid-April, v/hen he was fourth behind Brazen Brat in the Rowe Memorial. Dinner Winner was second in both the Bowie and Laurel and third in the Capitol Handicap. Repetoire and Penocc are without a score this season, although the former has shown signs of returning to the peak form he displayed early in his three-year-old season. Mohammedan and Huntsville havent shown enough to warrant serious consideration against tomorrows company.
