SEVEN PILLARS was sent up between horses on leaving the backstretch to engage GAY SPREE on entering the stretch and, under strong handling, wore down that one nearing the final furlong. LITTLE COLLEEN, badly outrun early, slipped through along the inside on entering the stretch and finished full of run. PLATTERETTE was forced to race wide and made up some ground. MILAN BOY raced with the top flight from the start while on the outside and hung slightly in the final drive. DAWTY was never a contender. ATOMIC KISS raced wide and quit. GINNY GANDE was never far back, moved through along the inside to wrest command on entering the stretch and in a sustained drive gradually drew out. YASUO, also prominent from the start, was between horses throughout and appeared to hang slightly in the final drive. NIGHT OWL, slow to settle in stride, was forced to take up sharply when blocked on leaving the backstretch, came to the extreme outside when clear and finished strongly. SADDLE SAGA tired from her early effort. BURNT THROAT was never a serious factor. STAR POWDER was forced to take up leaving the backstretch. HEROS QUEEN was throgh early. The latter forced the early pace while in hand, assumed command when the leader swung wide entering the stretch and just failed to last. BLACK HOMBURG, badly outrun early, moved through along the inside and finished ■full of run. WELLFLEET found her best stride too late. SPEEDMAN was never a serious factor. DRY MARTINI found his best stride too late. PHANTOM EYE had speed, saved ground and, while not being fully ridden out, lost the place. BARDASUE closed a big gap along the inside in the late stages. PIPE OF PEACE, held under restraint to the final turn, was eased to the outside to make his bid, wore down the leaders while under pressure nearing the final furlong and was all out to hold PARNASSUS safe. The latter, taken in hand at the start, raced along the inside throughout and finished strongly. FAST CHARGER made the pace while in hand, saved ground to the stretch and drifted out while tiring.
