Stephens Back in Pale Hose Fold in General Utility Role The Chicago White Sox yesterday announced yesterday they have signed Vernon "Junior" Stephens as a free agent for duty as a utility infielder and pinch hitter. Stephens, 34-year-old veteran of the major*, was given his release, recently by Baltimore. Last year, he batted .285 in 101 games, with 46 runs batted in and eight home runs.
