Fly Wheel Highweight For Laurel Handicap Subahdar Certain Starter With 1 24, Two Less Than Honored Foe By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent LAUREL, Md., May 2. — Cornelius V. Whitney s Fly Wheel and Cold Command have been assigned 126 and 122 pounds, respectively, for Saturdays closing-day running of the 5,000 added Laurel Handicap. Weights for this mile and one-sixteenth event were released here this afternoon by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan, and separating the aforementioned duo are Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Subahdar and Maine Chance Farm s Jet Action, each with 124 pounds. Fly Wheel, should trainer Syl Veitch elect to start him in the Laurel, probably would go postward as the favorite, in view of a Florida campaign which included victories in three of his last four starts. Stakes successes in that string were the Magic City and Appleton Handicaps. He has raced only once since that time and Continued on Page Forty-Fight Fly Wheel Highweighted For Laurel Handicap Subahdar Certain Starter With 124; Two Less Than Honored Foe Continued from Page One was sixth behind Social Outcast after having attained command in the Lincoln Special. Cold Command has been lightly campaigned thus far in the season and has shown no semblance of the form which enabled him to earn 6,415 last season. Jet Action hasnt raced since Florida/ where he was fifth behind Hasty Road, Cerise Reine and others in his lone appearance. That was, an allowance race which was to have served as a prep for the Widener, in which he failed to compete. Most certain starter of the highweights is Subahdar, a five-year-old son of Alsab and Muti. This fellow has raced but once this year, beaten a field of allowance horses here earlier in the meeting while being timed in 1:44 flat for a mile and a sixteenth. The manner in which he ac-, complished. that victory suggested that better things are in store, and the Laurel could be the spot for him to commence a stakes-winning campaign. He came to hand rather late last season and was second in the Manhattan and Trenton, then was third at a mile and five furlongs in the Gallant Fox. The only other horse listed in the top brackets by McLennan was Wheatley Stables Full Flight, who was assigned 120 pounds. He hasnt won this season, but has several good efforts and is considered a possibility for the Laurel. The complete list of weights, for the Laurel follows: Horse. Wt. Horse. „ Wt.
