Golden Land Accounts For Golden Gate Derby Recently Acquired Crevolin Stable Colt Beats Beau Busher by Three GOLDEN GATE FIELDS, Albany, Calif., May 2. — That the A. J. Crevolin Stable has another good horse on its hands was demonstrated here last Saturday when the newly acquired Golden Land ran off with the 0,000 Golden Gate Derby. He took that run of a mile and an eighth with utmost ease and while he may or may not be the equals of Swaps and Jeans Joe, who now are at Churchill Downs awaiting the Kentucky Derby, he proved himself much the best of the others who comprise the upper brackets of the western three-year-bid division. Golden Land, who raced last winter in Florida under the banner of the Rokeby Stable, was- bought sight unseen a couple of months ago for a reported 0,000 and already has v n himself out. Under his new ownership Golden Land won two overnight races and then came his triumph in the Golden Gate Derby which netted him 9,325. Shortly before the Derby, Crevolin sold half interest in his new star to T. Kirk "Hill who also made a quick dividend on his investment. Golden Land, ridden by Ray York, ran the mile and an eighth of last Saturdays engagement in the excellent time of 1:48% and reached the wire with three lengths to spare over the favorite, Sunny Side Stables Beau Busher: R. C. Ellsworths Bequeath was third and T. Hart Nesbits Noir fourth among, the ten three-year-olds which took part. Noir, who was second choice of the" crowd of nearly 19,000, went lame in the race. Bequeath showed the most early foot in the Derby and he showed the way for almost three-quarters of a mile when Golden Land took over. Coming to the eighth pole the Crevolin colt was in the lead by two lengths and while being eased increased his advantage to three. After giving up the lead to Golden Land, Bequeath, who was making his first start since finishing fourth in the Santa Anita Derby, held on gamely, but Beau Busher passed him near the end to take the place by a length and a quarter. Beau Busher had been among the leaders from the beginning. Others who made up the Derby field j were Star of Ross, Covert, Fabulous Vegas, Pay Section, Gipsy Rover and Good Gesture. Northern California fans have seen the last of Golden Land for this meeting. He now goes to Hollywood Park where his prime objective is the 0,000 Westerner for three-year-olds.*
